In January 2025, Singaporean prime minister Lawrence Wong is the best-paid head of government in the world with an annual salary of US$1.61 million (2.2 million Singapore dollars).

New Swiss president Karin Keller-Sutter is the second-highest paid, with an annual pay packet of around US$531,000 (CHF 484,958) as head of Switzerland’s federal council, a role that rotates annually between the council’s seven members.

Outgoing US president Joe Biden is fourth in the global pay charts, earning US$400,000 per year.

Donald Trump will officially take over the role after his inauguration on 20 January.

Australian prime minister Anthony Albanese is fourth on the list with an annual salary of US$378,000 (AU$607,520).

In fifth place is interim Austrian chancellor Alexander Schallenberg, earning US$294,000.

The heads of government for Germany, Belgium, Canada, New Zealand and Luxembourg make up the rest of the top 10 this month.
