About this site

WHAT’S THIS ALL ABOUT?

PoliticalSalaries.com compiles data about the base salaries of politicians around the world.

The site was created to:

  • improve the transparency of political salaries
  • help people to find out how much their politicians are paid
  • enable a comparison of political salaries across the globe.

The site was created in 2022 based on data from the most reliable sources available for each respective country.

Who created this site?

This site was created by William Summers, a professional fact-check journalist and open data advocate based in Melbourne, Australia (find me on Twitter here).

Several years ago I compiled my own dataset of political salaries but never put it to much good use. At some point, I bought this domain name with the intention of making that data public. Then at some later point, I found time to actually do it!

This is a personal hobby project. PoliticalSalaries.com has no association with my employer (Australian Associated Press) or any other organisation.

If you find this website useful, please consider throwing a few dollars into our Tip Jar to help pay our web hosting fees.

Can I reuse the data?

PoliticalSalaries.com is an open data project.

The salary data comes from public sources. Sources are included in the data tables.

I encourage re-use of the information for research, academic, media and other purposes in line with Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial (CC BY-NC 4.0) license rules.

In simple terms, that means salary maps and data tables from this website may be republished in full at no charge for non-commercial purposes, with appropriate attribution to PoliticalSalaries.com (e.g. ‘Source: PoliticalSalaries.com’).

If you wish to republish the salary maps or data tables for commercial purposes – including news media – please contact me first to request permission.
