Singapore’s prime minister Lawrence Wong is reportedly set for a massive S$1m pay rise, consolidating his position as the world’s highest-paid head of government.

The 64% pay rise will see his annual salary go from S$2.2m (US$1.7m) to S$3.6m (US$2.8m).

Reuters reports the salary increase will be debated in Singapore’s parliament on Thursday (10 September 2026). Other ministers are also set for a big pay rise, Reuters reports.

Wong is by far the world’s highest-paid political leader, already earning around 4 times as much as US president Donald Trump (US$400,000) before the proposed pay rise.

He reportedly said he would donate his entire salary increase to “suitable good causes”.
