Australian MPs won’t get their usual July pay rise in 2026 after the independent body that sets their salaries recommended no change to their A$239,270 (US$173,000) base figure.

The Remuneration Tribunal decision was published on 11 June 2026 and applies to the Australian financial year beginning 1 July 2026.

It marks the first annual pay freeze for Australian federal politicians since salaries were held steady during Covid-19.

Australian prime minister Anthony Albanese earns 260% of the base salary, making his base salary around A$622,000 (US$449,000).

All federal MPs are also paid an “electorate allowance” worth between A$39,700 and A$57,100 per year, depending on the size of their electorate.
