Namibia has sworn in its first female president, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.
The 72-year-old will earn an annual salary of N$1,753,964 or around US$96,000, according to data compiled by politicalsalaries.com.
The president’s annual salary is listed in a 2017 government gazette notice that determines the pay of senior government members.
The gazette notice says the president’s salary is set at a figure 15% higher than that of the vice president.
The president also gets a range of other allowances and perks, including an exemption from income tax and a monthly allowance for the president’s spouse.
No other gazettes published since 2017 list any updated salary figures. Politicalsalaries.com, therefore, assesses the N$1,753,964 figure to be highly likely to be accurate.
Ms Nandi-Ndaitwah becomes Africa’s second-ever directly elected female president, according to BBC News.
