Here’s an updated list of the best-paid world leaders for August 2025.
There have been a few changes since the last update in March 2025, though most of the changes in $US salary values are simply due to exchange rate fluctuations against the US dollar.
Singapore’s prime minister Lawrence Wong remains the best-paid world leader in August 2025, with an annual salary of 2.2 million Singaporean dollars or around US$1.7 million.
Swiss president Karin Keller-Sutter earns around US$603,000 (CHF 489,688) as head of Switzerland’s federal council, a role that rotates annually between the council’s seven members.
German chancellor Friedrich Merz is third, earning €365,000 or about $US417,000.
Australian prime minister Anthony Albanese and US president Donald Trump are neck-and-neck in the global pay charts, each earning US$400,000 per year.
The top 10 is made up by the heads of government for Austria, Belgium, Canada, New Zealand and Denmark.
