Singapore’s prime minister Lawrence Wong remains the best-paid world leader in March 2025, with an annual salary of 2.2 million Singaporean dollars or around US$1.6 million.

In second place is Swiss president Karin Keller-Sutter, who earns around US$553,000 (CHF 484,958) as head of Switzerland’s federal council, a role that rotates annually between the council’s seven members.

US president Donald Trump is third in the global pay charts, earning US$400,000 per year.

In fourth place is outgoing German chancellor Olaf Scholz, who earns around €365,000 or US$396,000. Scholz is due to be replaced as chancellor in early 2025 after a poor result in Germany’s February 2025 election.

Australian prime minister Anthony Albanese is the world’s fifth highest-paid head of government with an annual salary of around US$382,000 (AU$607,520).

The heads of government for Austria, Belgium, New Zealand, Canada and Luxembourg make up the rest of the top 10.
